Highgate House is located at the junction of the famous St Hilda’s Terrace and Skinner Street. Access to town is down the steep slope of Flowergate, access to the beach is also via this slope, the zig zag cliff path or steps from the West Cliff. Highgate House is centrally located to explore all the fabulous attractions the ancient fishing port of Whitby has to offer. As the house is centrally located in the town there is no on-site parking. Please see our car parking page for further details on parking arrangements in Whitby.
The nearest bus and train station is located a 5-minute walk down either Flowergate or Brunswick Street. There are various taxi companies located in town the main taxi rank is by the harbour opposite the Angel Hotel.
Highgate House was built in 1762 sadly not a lot of consideration was given to accessibility. There are 23 steps up from the street up to the garden, there are shutter external doors followed by a inner door. Our guest rooms are located on the first floor these are accessed via two flights of stairs. (No Lift)
Sadly, Highgate House isn’t ideal for guests with mobility difficulties.
